Types of Road Stud

Ordinary spikes:
Generally, cast aluminum road studs, plastic road studs, ceramic road studs, and glass ball studs are put into ordinary road studs. Let's introduce the road studs in detail by function classification.
1. Cast aluminum road stud
There are two types of cast aluminum and cast aluminum shells. All-cast aluminum means that the shell is made of metal and has a relatively high compressive strength. It is generally used at double yellow lines and is generally called all-aluminum road studs. Cast aluminum shell means that the shell is cast aluminum and the inside is filled. Such a road stud has a lower cost than full cast aluminum, but at the same time the compressive strength is not so high. It is generally called a cast aluminum road stud or a cast aluminum filled road stud. .
2. Plastic road studs
There are also two types of plastic and plastic shells. All-plastic means that the shell is made of plastic injection molding, and the material may be ABS, AS+glass fiber, etc., and has high compressive strength. It is generally called all-plastic road stud. Plastic shell means that the shell is made of plastic and the interior is filled. The cost of such a road stud is lower than that of all plastic, but at the same time the compressive strength is not so high. It is generally called a plastic road stud or a plastic-filled road stud.
3. Ceramic road studs
The material is cement ceramic, round, and it is used in early stage. It is fragile during transportation and is generally not recommended.
4. Glass fairway spikes
The material is glass, which has many early applications, difficult construction and installation, and few basic applications. Generally not recommended.
5. Reflective bead road studs
The reflector is 21 or 43 high-brightness reflective beads. The manufacturer is represented by Swarovski.
6. Railway spikes
It is divided into manual road studs and mechanical road studs. Hand-made road studs are made by hand, with different dimensions, but the price is low, and the goods are generally shipped per ton. Machine-made road studs are manufactured by machine through forging, heat treatment, threading and other processes. Regardless of the shape, size and availability, they are the best choice, but the price is slightly higher, and they are generally ordered by item.

Other types:
Solar road stud
Solar road stud is a road stud product that uses solar panels as charging components, batteries or capacitors as energy storage components, and uses LED light or combined with passive light. Its visual effect is better than ordinary road studs. According to the different energy storage components, it can be divided into: solar road stud (battery) and solar road stud (capacitor).
Due to the difference in LED color and voltage, it can be divided into two categories:
1. Red, yellow;
2. White, blue, green, etc.
Tunnel active spike
Tunnel active road studs are a kind of traffic safety facility that is more advanced than solar road studs. It uses solar panels or alternating current as the input source and centrally controls the work of the road studs through a controller, which flashes or lights up at the same time. The effect is more obvious than solar road studs. There is a wire connection between each spike. Generally, each group of controllers can control about 1000 meters in diameter.
Smart wireless road stud
Through the wireless signal sent by the controller, the road stud as the receiving signal works according to the transmitted signal. There is no wire connection between the road studs, and the construction is convenient. The transmission and reception interference of wireless signals is a difficult point.
The technology of road studs is also constantly developing and becoming more and more mature. There will be more varieties in the future.

Installation issues:
With the widespread application of road studs in domestic high-grade highways and municipal roads, the quality and service life of road studs have received more attention. However, in the actual application process, the spikes are damaged and the service life is reduced due to installation problems. Based on years of construction experience, the author summarized the problems that often occurred during the installation of road studs, and proposed a reasonable installation method. I hope to discuss with colleagues in the transportation industry.
The following are common problems during the installation of road studs:
1. Install on the marking line. The marking line is also a kind of resin material, which is also attached to the ground, and its connection with the ground has a certain limit. If the road stud is installed on the marking line, the impact force of the road stud is completely transferred to the marking line. In this way, the road stud is easily knocked off and the marking line will also be glued.
2. The location of the spikes is uneven. The direct consequence of this is that the force of the road stud is uneven, and the pressure on the road stud is almost all concentrated on the convex and concave parts. If you encounter a large-tonnage vehicle, the spike is easy to break.
3. The location of the spikes is not clean. The firmness of the road stud depends on the close combination of the road stud, glue and the ground. If the installation location is not clean, the dust in it will absorb most of the adhesive force of the glue, which will cause the road studs to be weakly bonded, and they will easily fall off when they are impacted by external forces.
4. The amount of glue is insufficient or excessive. Insufficient amount will reduce the firmness of the road studs and reduce their service life; too much use will cause excess glue to seep out from around the road studs, which will easily rub on the reflective sheet of the road studs and affect their reflective brightness.
5. The glue is not evenly applied. When installing road studs, not only should the amount of glue be appropriate, but also spread evenly, so as to ensure that all parts of the road stud are evenly stressed and avoid being crushed due to uneven force.
6. The ambient temperature is not enough when the epoxy resin glue is deployed. Epoxy resin glue is a two-component glue. The glue and curing agent must be proportioned according to a certain ratio, and the effect can only be exerted after uniform mixing. However, because epoxy resin glue condenses more severely in low-temperature weather in winter, it is not easy to stir evenly, so it must be heated before use to allow the glue to soften before use.
7. The method of picking up road studs is unscientific. When holding the road stud, be sure to hold the two sides without the reflector to prevent the glue from sticking to the reflector and affect the brightness of the reflector.
8. The mounting holes of road studs are shallow and fine. This is mainly for cast aluminum spikes with feet. Cast aluminum spikes with feet have better impact resistance, compression resistance, and longer service life because of their partial penetration into the ground. However, during the installation process, if the hole position is too shallow or too thin, the bottom surface of the spike will not be in full contact with the ground, which will affect the firmness of the bonding.

9. The glue curing time is not enough after installation. After the road studs are installed, the glue needs a period of time to solidify before the road studs can be tightly connected to the ground. The author recommends 4 hours during this time. However, in the actual process, many people remove the installation isolation facilities less than two hours after installation; in this case, if the vehicle is impacted and crushed, the light spike will be deformed, and the heavy spike will fall off.
